When I went to Costa Rica in June 2026, one of my hopes was to see their largest Helicopter Damselfly, Megaloprepus caerulatus (Blue-winged Helicopter); it’s huge with each hind wing measuring up to 85mm.
I missed seeing that but as a consolation prize I did see this smaller cousin, Mecisogaster modesta (Bromeliad Helicopter ). Just the one quickly grabbed shot as it hung up near the ground; an unusual occurrence.
